Parador de Cangas de Onís Accommodation 4 Stars in Cangas de Onís, Spain
The story goes that the Parador was built for the King Alfonso I, ? El
Catolico? in February 746; when excavations were been carried out, at
the beginning of the building work to convert it into a Tourist Parador,
confirmed this idea. The building was used as a monastery by the San
Benito monks until 1835. There are two salons where archeological
remains were found, especially, ceramics when building work was carried
out, give credit to the ancient past. The Monastery was declared a
National Monument in 1907, and a wing was added in the same
architectural style, using the same materials as the original building
making this a jewel at the edge of the River Sella, were its image is
reflected; behind the Parador are the beautiful landscape of the
?Picos de Europa?.
